Introduction
Medical treatise. The fragment (18.4 x 16.7 cm) contains the remains of two columns on the recto; verso is blank. No margin survives. The subject treated in the left-hand column, and probably in the right-hand column to the paragraphos at l. 8, appears to be the consequences of a severe injury to the eye: at col. I, ll. 1-7 the author describes an unexpected situation in which a post-traumatic fever suddenly causes the patient’s death, while the feverish condition normally induces only γλαυκώμα, i.e. the grey-blue coloring of the pupil or the cornea (ll. 12-17); the final part of this theory is perhaps contained in the lower portion of col. I and in the first seven lines of col. II, but the text seems here to be unrecoverable. Finally, at col. II l. 8 a new chapter begins, but again we cannot ascertain the contents of the section. The text is written in an upright medium-sized book hand assignable to the 2nd cent. B.C.
