Introduction
Medical treatise. Bifolium fragment (13.5 x 14.9 cm) of a papyrus codex written on both sides. The recto bears scanty traces of 9 line endings and more substantial remains of 21 lines from a second column. Intercolumniation is ca. 4 cm wide. On the verso, another 21 lines from the lower part of a third column. No margin survives. The fragment contains an unknown toxicological treatise: the brevity and lacunosity of col. I, ll. 1-9 and col. II, ll. 1-14 make the positive determination of their contents extremely uncertain. Col. II, ll. 15-21 preserves the opening of a chapter devoted to the sea hare (Aplysia depilans); the text on the verso provides a brief list of detoxifying substances with methods of administration. Paragraphoi and blank spaces are inserted to separate different sections of the work (see ll. 15-6). The script is a sloping, carefully written ogival majuscule assignable to the middle of the 5th cent. AD.
