Introduction

Medical recipes (P.Berl.Möller 13r). The fragment (11.3 x 27 cm) originally belonged to a papyrus roll written on the recto along the fibers. A collection of recipes arranged in two columns is contained on the front. The intercolumnium is 1.5 cm wide and there is a κόλλησις running at ca. 7 cm from the left-hand side. A very striking feature is the blank of ca. 16 cm below Col. I, whose extent of eleven lines contrasts with the thirty lines of Col. II. The back was turned upside down and reused for a document, i.e. a copy of an imperial decree followed by an exercise for the learning of chancery language (P.Berl.Möller 13v = SB 4.7350v). The eleven lines of Col. I overlap with a remedy by Heras to combat hair loss textually quoted by Galen (Comp. sec. loc. XII 430, 8–15 K). Col. II preserves the remains of thirty lines; ll. 1–3 overlap with Heras ap. Gal., Comp. sec. loc. XII 593.14 K, whereas ll. 4–8 and 9–15 quite closely resemble Heras’ prescriptions in Gal., Comp. sec. loc. XII 593.14; Aet. VI 50.75–79 and Comp. sec. loc. XII 594.7ff. K. A few spelling mistakes occur in both columns, and vowels and diphthongs are occasionally confused. Lectional signs (paragraphoi) mark the transition between recipes. The medical text is written in a semi-cursive hand that points to a date in the late 3rd-early 4th century AD. The manuscript was discovered in Hermoupolis Magna.

The digital edition is mostly based on the previous editions (ed.pr. = S. Möller, P.Berl.Möller 13r = SB IV 7350r; ed.alt. = M.-H. Marganne, Pap.Flor. VII, pp. 179-83; ed.ter. = F.
