Introduction
List of book titles (P.Ross.Georg. 1.22 = CPF 1.1.1.2). Papyrus fragment (9.6 x 12 cm) from a roll, preserving two columns written on the recto (verso empty). The text contains a list of book titles, mostly of philosophical subject, likely belonging to a private library. It is worth noting (beside the title of Aristotle's Athenaion Politeia, col. i ll. 12-13) the mention of the "Fundamentals" (Κεφάλαια = Capita, sc. "of medicine") by Theodas of Laodikeia, empirical physician of the first half of the 2nd cent. AD. He is attested as the author of two books commented by Galen, the "Introduction" (Eisagoge) to empirical medicine and the Capita themselves. On this author cf. Deichgräber 1930, 214-5; Capelle 1934; Marganne 1986185-6. The papyrus is dated to the early 3rd cent. AD according to palaeography. The second column, of which only the line beginnings are preserved, exhibit large blank spaces that could be either eistheseis of long titles (as some shorter instances in col. i) or just text gaps due to the bad state of preservation of the support.
(This papyrus has been digitally edited by Nicola Reggiani as part of the Project "DIGMEDTEXT - Online Humanities Scholarship: A Digital Medical Library based on Ancient Texts" (ERC-AdG-2013, Grant Agreement no. 339828) funded by the European Research Council at the University of Parma (Principal Investigator: Prof. Isabella Andorlini). The digital edition is mostly based on the previous editions (ed.pr. = J. Zündel, RhM 21, 1866, 431-3, ed.alt. = V. Jernstedt, ZMNP 1901, 48-55 = Opuscula, St. Petersburg 1907, 171-8; ed.ter. = U. Wilcken, Chr.W. 155; ed.quar. = G. Zereteli - O. Krüger, P.Ross.Georg. I 22; ed.quin. = A. Linguiti, CPF I 1.1 2; corr. R. Otranto, Liste di libri, 15). )
