Introduction
Medical recipes. Small fragment (7.5 x 7.3 cm) of parchment inscribed on the hair-side containing 14 lines of writing (the other side is blank). The letters in the left margin opposite ll. 9-10 may be the remains of a preceding column. The fragment preserves a series of medical receipts separated by paragraphoi between ll. 1-2 and 7-8: directions are given for the production and use of τροκίσχοι (lozenges or pastilles) for certain ailments, such as aphthae (ll. 2-6) and fluxes of various kinds (ll. 8ff.). The ingredients appear to be arranged alphabetically. The text is copied in a cursive hand of, probably, about the middle of the 3rd cent. AD.

Notes
- 1.
For [ὕ]δατος κ̣υ̣α̣[θ-], see l. 4.
- 2.
πρὸς ἄφθας: aphtha (i.e. parasitis stomatitis) was a widespread pathology in ancient Egypt (see Orib. Coll.med., lib.inc., 43 [4, 150.12ff Raed.]).
- 2-3.
σταφίδος ἐκγεγιγαρτiσμένης: grapeseed (σταφίς) is a common ingredient in remedies against aphthous stomatitis (see Gal. Comp.med.sec.loc. 6.9 (12, 992.3 and 996.4 K).
- 4-5.
ὕ̣δ̣α̣[τι]: ἀναλαμβάνω is normally constructed with the dative of the excipient, see Andorlini 1981, 59.
- 7.
εἰς κοίτην α καὶ πρωεὶ τ̣ῆ̣[ς ἡμέρας α]: «one before bed-time, one early in the morning». For this timing see Andorlini 1981, 59.
- 8.
See Galen Comp.med.sec.loc. 7.3 (13, 90.2ff Κ) ἄλλη ἀνώδυνος ἡ διὰ σπερμάτων, in which various quantities of σελίνου σπέρμα, ἄμμεως, ἀνίσου, μαράθρου, ὀπίου, κασσίας μελαίνης are to be made up into τροχίσκοι σὺν ὕδατι. The source of this receipt is stated to be Andromachus. In Paul.Aeg. 7.12 a τροχίσκος διὰ σπερμάτων is composed of ἀννήσου, ἄμμεως, μαράθρου σπέρματος ἀνὰ (δραχμὰς) δ, σελίνου σπέρματος, ὀπίου, ὑοσκυάμου σπέρματος ἀνὰ (δραχμὰς) β. ὕδατι: cf. Aet. 9.48.
- 9.
κάλλι[στος] is rather tautologous with ἄκρως πυεῖ (l. ποιεῖ) but there is no doubt about the reading, see e.g. Galen Comp.med.sec.loc. 7.3 (13, 95.3-5 K).
- 10.
For ἄμμ̣[εως] cf. the parallels quoted in the note on l. 8.
- 13.
[ὀπ]ί̣ου (‘poppy-juice’) fills the lacuna perfectly and is a standard ingredient of a τροχίσκος διὰ σπερμάτων (see above l. 8 and Andorlini 1981, 60). μήκονος (l. μήκωνος): it was presumably followed by a figure or symbol.
