Introduction
Medical prescriptions. Fragment (17.4 x 10 cm) of a papyrus roll broken on all sides, containing on the recto remains of 70 lines of writing arranged in two columns (col. I: 32 lines; col. II: 38 lines); intercolumnar space is 1 cm. On the verso, 23 lines written in a cursive majuscule of the 3rd cent. AD. The very bad state of preservation of the papyrus makes the exact determination of its contents difficult: probably, it contained some medical prescriptions of the kind usually employed in pharmacological works such as Gal. Simpl.medicament.temp., Comp.med.per gen., Comp.med.sec.loc. The text seems to deal with phlegm (φλέγμα; col. I, l. 14), delirium (παρακοπή; col. II, l. 1, 4), and digestion (π̣έ̣ψιν τῶν σιτίων; col. II, l. 6). It was copied in an informal round hand dating back to the 2nd cent. AD.

Notes
- Col. I, l. 7.
It is not clear whether ἐχίνους refers to hedgehogs or sea-urchins (see e.g. Hp. Mul. 1.78 [6, 185.11 L]; Hp. Vict. 2.48 [6, 550.8 L]). ποιεῖ (‘it is helpful’) is commonly employed in medical prose, especially in sentence beginnings: see e.g. Gal. Comp.med.sec.loc. 3.1 [12, 634.10; 657.4 K]. For this reason, some kind of pause probably occurs between ἐχίνους and ποιεῖ.
- 11.
επ[.]χο: probably a term related to the bile; e.g. ἐπίχολος ‘full of bile, bilious’ (Hp. Fract. 35 [3, 536.17 L]), ἐπιχολόομαι ‘turn into bile’ (Gal. In Hipp.Acut.Comment. 2.44 [15, 599.15 K]).
- 13.
καινη (‘new, fresh’) may suggest that a new instrument should be used (see Gal. Comp.med.sec.loc. 5.5 [12, 859.3 K]).
- 21.
κοχ[λ-]: maybe a form of κόχλος or κοχλία ('land snail'); see Gal. Simp.medicament.temp. 11.32 [12, 355.8ff. K].
- 26.
Possible reference to a plant cultivated by the Ethiopians (see Fausti 1991, 349); however, a mention of some physical characteristics of Ethiopians would also be appropriate here (see Gal. Temper. 2.5 [1, 616.16 K]).
- Col. II, l. 7.
μησαι: aorist infinitive of some verb in -αω or -εω.
- 25.
καταβε[-]: perfect passive of καταβάλλω or καταβρέχω?
- 26.
….λ̣ιζη: possible form of ἀλίζω or βαδίζω.
