Introduction

Medical recipes. The papyrus fragment (10.5 x 15 cm) belongs to a roll copied on the recto along the fibers and contains two columns of text. Whether a further column originally followed Col. ii on the right-hand side is unclear. The first column is severely damaged along the left side, while the second one, apparently entirely preserved, contains two prescriptions separated by the paragraphos: the second recipe (ll. 3-15) is concerned with the preparation of beef tallow. The script is large and unprofessional and could be dated to the 2nd c. AD.

(This papyrus has been digitally edited by Francesca Corazza as part of the Project "DIGMEDTEXT - Online Humanities Scholarship: A Digital Medical Library based on Ancient Texts" (ERC-AdG-2013, Grant Agreement no. 339828) funded by the European Research Council at the University of Parma (Principal Investigator: Prof. Isabella Andorlini). The digital edition is mostly based on the previou edition (K. Kalbfleisch - H. Schöne, BKT III, pp. 30-1))

ἔξω "outside" - It is probably a reference to a supplement on the verso, though the edition does not report anything about the back (so McNamee 2007464 no. 2392). Cf. P.Oxy. 3.413, i, 37, where τὸ εἴσ̣ω̣ ἢ ὡς μεν[ is added at the bottom, in the reverse direction, by a second hand that also wrote the back (see comm. ad loc.).
