Introduction
Part of an Hippocratic treatise (Brussels, Musées Royaux E 5929). Papyrus fragment (8,7x7,1cm) from the bottom of a column. It comprises 15 lines and the upper, left and right margins are not preserved. The extract was first of unclear nature (being described in the editio princeps as a possible medical treatise or a philosophical work of more general character), but Diels later recognized some parts that resembled the Hippocratic Oath (vd. commentary). Therefore the fragment might be considered another version of the Oath or a treatise about it. Concerning the topic, there is a possible mention of persons suffering from bladder calculus and prohibitions for the surgeon when treating them. The fragment continues with an enumeration of the surgeon's duties. The hand is a medium-sized sloping uncial, probably dating from the third century AD, and can be compared to P.Berol. 9766.
(This papyrus has been digitally edited by Marcel Moser as part of the Project "DIGMEDTEXT - Online Humanities Scholarship: A Digital Medical Library based on Ancient Texts" (ERC-AdG-2013, Grant Agreement no. 339828) funded by the European Research Council at the University of Parma (Principal Investigator: Prof. Isabella Andorlini). The digital edition is mostly based on the previous editions (Grenfell-Hunt, P.Oxy. 3 437 (1903); Wouters, Philologus 121 (1977), p. 146-149).)

For the suggested readings in these lines confer J. L. Heiberg, Hippocrates, 4.19: οὐ τεμέω δὲ οὐδὲ μὴν λιθιῶντας, ἐκχωρήσω δὲ ἐργάτῃσιν ἀνδράσιν πρήξιος τῆσδε.
- 9-10.

In his notes to this papyrus, Hermann Diels stated πλημμελεῖν as a possible synonym for ποιεῖν.

ὁ ἄριστος χειρουργὸς is a new reading by Wouters who doubts the reading of the editio princeps which would be the hapax legomenon ἀριστοχειρουργὸς.
